The chairman in Kitemill Svein-Olav Torø (picture) is convinced about the market for kite turbines. When the uncertainty about the technology, the used area, permission and operation of multiple units disappear, he envisions that a commercial product can be ready in the time period 2016 – 2017.
Svein-Olav Torø is the general manager of Kongsberg Innovation AS, which is owned by known companies like Kongsberg Gruppen AS, FMC Technologies, Statoil, Siva and Teknologisk Institutt.
Kongsberg Innovation AS is today the second largest shareholder of Kitemill.
Kongsberg and Kitemill are sharing multiple competences.
- We look at our investment as very interesting, since Kongsberg Innovation has a lot of competence in different of Kitemills important development areas, for example aerodynamics and control systems, underlines chairman of the board Torø.
He says that this Kongsberg- competence is available to Kitemill, something that is strength for both companies.
- Kongsberg Gruppen has in addition established a position in wind energy in Trondheim through the company Kongsberg Renewable Technology, where the focus is on surveillance, control and optimization of production in windparks. Kitemill its solution is a more challenging concept where our special competence in control and optimization of processes potentially can contribute to new business possibilities for these units, says Svein-Olav Torø.
Private persons, companies and power producers.
When Kitemill has a commercial product ready in the period 2016-2017, the business plans envisions sales to customers like private people (households), companies, power producers and wind farm developers.
- In addition will Kitemill be a supplier and competence center for maintenance and support of kite turbines. To establish a market, Kitemill will develop parks with kite turbines at geographical areas with the necessary permits and infrastructure. Those will function as marketplaces for sales of kite turbines. Kitemill will also assist with operation and maintenance, says Torø.
Realistic time plan
