The IEA focuses on airborne wind in large energy workshop

For several years, Airborne Wind Europe has facilitated the IEA's work to increase knowledge and understanding of the utilization of altitude wind power. Kitemill is an important contributor to Airborne Wind Europe through participation in several working groups and through Jon Gjerde, Kitemill’s main shareholder holds the position of chairman of the Airborne Wind Europe board.

Reliable, clean and affordable

The International Energy Agency (IEA) works to ensure reliable, affordable and clean energy for both member countries and nations around the world. At present, there are 29 member countries (including Norway) participating in the IEA; There are also six countries with association status and two countries that are candidates for accession to the IEA. The International Energy Agency (IEA) was formed in 1974 as an autonomous body of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

We have increased our focus on new wind concepts

The IEA wants to promote and share knowledge about new wind concepts. The ultimate goal of the TEM # 102 Airborn Wind Energy conference is to identify research challenges and opportunities to advance a proposal for a larger scope of a new IEA wind mission on airborne wind power.

Altitude wind power come to stay

- It is good that the IEA is focusing on airborne wind energy. It is a sign of many, that what we are moving in the right direction.To elaborate, this initiative is backed not only by IEA and Airborne Wind Europe but also NREL amongst a few others, NREL is The National Renewable Energy Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy. Following on from the fact that the EU already priorities AWE, I believe AWE is getting the foothold to become a large and important contribution to the global energy mix. The current financial support from the EU to Kitemill shows that the sector gradually gaining access to the necessary resources. Airborne wind energy is here to stay. It is renewable, clean, environmentally friendly and secures our common planet, says Kitemill's CEO Thomas Hårklau.

Technological breakthrough

KITEMILL develops a breakthrough wind technology based on stronger and more consistent winds at higher altitudes (500 – 1500 meters). Kitemill's technological solutions can contribute to a new, major paradigm shift in the production of electric power, for the benefit of humanity.

- Kitemill and the kite industry have an enormous potential to be able to supplement the existing wind turbine industry, so that electric power produced by a clean, renewable resource, such as wind, will increase significantly, says Hårklau.
